

Lamar was born in Six Mile to the late Reverend James Edward Stephens and Thelma Katherine Ellenburg. Lamar, or better known as Papa, was an avid Clemson Tiger fan. He was a classic car enthusiast and spent many hours tinkering and cleaning up his old cars. He doated on his grands and great-grands and was happiest when surrounded by family. He leaves a legacy of faith and love for all who knew him.
Lamar is survived by his beloved wife Joan Elaine Stephens; daughters Christian Leigh Robinson (Randy), and Misti Dawnn Greer (Jeremy); grandchildren Stephanie Leigh Proffitt (Beau), Allie Marie Jourdain, Morgan Dezerez Lewis (David), Season Elizabeth Owens (Weston), Peyton Grace Greer, Gatlin Burriss Greer, Rosalina Elizabeth Ledford, and Nataleigh Suzanna Ledford; great-grandchildren Bryce Edward Proffitt, Cash Isaiah Proffitt, Jerzie Marie Jourdain, Grady Lee Smith, Oaklyn Jolene Dell Smith, Willow Elaine Owens; brother Bishop Roger D. Stephens (Joyce); niece Alina Herring (Joey) and nephew Alan Stephens (Jennifer). He also leaves special family Rodney, Jennifer, and Brooke Ellenburg; and numerous nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
A visitation for Lamar will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home, 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens, South Carolina 29671. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, with a committal service to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
