He was a graduate of Fort Johnson High school on James Island, South Carolina and attended Trident Technical College, obtaining an associate’s degree in computer science when that degree was in its infancy.
Born December 6, 1953, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Margaret Nesbit Jarrell. Steve grew up in a home that valued faith, hard work, and steadfastness. He carried those values throughout his life. Those who knew Steve will remember his epic laugh, his interest in gemstones, minerals and fossils, anything sci-fi, fast cars, and history.
Steve lived the majority of his life on James Island. He retired from Three Saints Bay where he was employed as an Information Technology Specialist. He excelled at networking large banks of computers that would intimidate most others. He had a true gift for repairing anything electrical or mechanical and shared that gift generously.
Steve possessed a strong faith in Christ but wasn’t always a fan of religion in general. He did study the bible diligently and espoused what he learned in those readings as evidenced by the way he lived his life.
Though he grew up along coastal South Carolina, Steve always loved the mountains and visited at least in the Spring and Fall. His last few years he lived alongside the Saluda River at the cusp of the mountains and found joy there as he could visit his beloved mountains to his heart’s content.
Steve was the last surviving member of his immediate family though he had numerous cousins that he cherished. He also had two long-term friends, Patricia Bryant and Pamela Fowler, who were like family, loved him dearly and supported him faithfully to the end. He will be greatly missed!
