Anne (Peters) DiPaola, beloved wife, mother, grandmother to many and a woman who always welcomed a hard, honest day's work, died peacefully Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Sunrise of McCandless. She was 94.
For the first three decades of her married life, Mrs. DiPaola was a housewife and a work-from-home mother (long before covid made it fashionable). Together with her husband Guy DiPaola Sr., who she married May 20, 1950, they raised two boys, Gerald and Guy Jr. It was truly a partnership brimming with love and respect for each other, always emphasizing the importance of family.
Born May 17, 1929, Mrs. DiPaola attended Oliver High School on the Northside of Pittsburgh and went to work while completing her studies. The first dollars earned went directly into savings, a life-long practice that served her well until the day she passed. After her sons married and left the nest, Mrs DiPaola re-entered the workforce-this time getting on a bus (sometimes two buses) and traveling into Downtown Pittsburgh. She was a fund-raiser, first for the March of Dimes and later for the Leukemia Society. Many times, she was heard to remark, "I Love my job. I Love working." Nothing describes Mrs. DiPaola better than those words. After Guy Sr. passed in 1998, Mrs. DiPaola became an independent, single working girl. She did not retire from the Leukemia Society until well into her 80's. Eventually, taking two buses to work-first to Downtown, then to the SOuth Side--became too much. She lived 10 more years beyond retirement until the emergence of several health challenges. Mrs. DiPaola is survived by her sons, Gerald A. "Jerry" (Theresa) and Guy A. (Donna) DiPaola. She will be missed by her seven grandchildren; Nick (Courtnie), Sara (Michael), Maria (Brett), Mandy (Corey), Matthew (Camille), Molly (Chance) and Mallory (Peter)--and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Guy Sr., parents Frank and Concetta Peters, sisters Mary Perugini and Phyllis Ackner, brother Dominic Peters and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family will be received Monday, July 17, 2023 at 9AM until 10:30AM at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry Hwy Pittsburgh PA 15237. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Assumption Church 45 North Sprague Ave. Pittsburgh PA with burial to follow at Christ Our Redeemer.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brandtfuneralhome.com for the DiPaola family.
