

She was born on April 20, 1946, the eldest daughter of the late Peter and Agnes (Ruda) O’Toole. She was also preceded in death by her husband Peter Paul Matessa Jr., brother Peter O’Toole and sister Mary Roble. She is survived by her aunt Ann Lancie, sisters Darlene (Ray) Carmack and Sharon (Scott) Coulter, children Michael (Barbara) of Ben Lomond, CA, Matthew (Donna) of Raleigh, NC, and Michelle (Craig) of Johnstown, PA; grandchildren Andy, Katie, Chris, Courtney, Rebecca and Emily; and great-grandchildren Claire and Mason.
Carol was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Academy and Duff’s Business Institute, working as an office manager for Robert D. Yeager, P.C., and a legal secretary/paralegal for Kirkpatrick and Lockhart LLP.
Carol loved to read, travel, and go for walks. Games were a favorite, whether card games, board games, or watching the Game Show channel. She was once in the audience of The Price Is Right, but she did not get to “come on down.” She loved spending time with family. Carol was the social butterfly, the conversation starter, and the glue that held the family together.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 29, from 10 am till noon at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home on Perry Hwy. in Pittsburgh. A funeral mass will be at 12:30 at St. Teresa of Avila, followed by a small service at Christ our Redeemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Laurel Highlands Alzheimer’s Foundation, 317 Power St., Johnstown, PA 15906. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.
