Cordela A. Dunbar, age 93, passed away on April 12, 2026. Born January 4, 1933, Cordela was a devoted, generous, honest, wise, selfless, resilient, and hard-working woman whose life reflected steady love, sincere service, and enduring strength. Cordela was a resident of Ingomar, Pennsylvania.
Cordela grew up in Bellevue and graduated from Bellevue High School, where she was the football queen and also a majorette. She met her soon-to-be husband, Frank, in the 8th grade, and they became high school sweethearts.
At age 18, Cordela began her career with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and was known as “miss page 1” during her time there. In time, she set her career aside to focus on raising her family.
Cordela was married to the late Frank Dunbar for 53 cherished years. She is survived by her three children, Michael Dunbar (Angela), Rebecca Denmead (Dean), and Pamela King (Michael), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A dedicated deacon at north park church in her early life, Cordela served others with a generous spirit, visiting senior parishioners in their times of need. A very godly woman, she loved the Lord Jesus, shared her faith with others, and—just as importantly—lived it.
Cordela was an avid gardener and loved reading, especially about history and the U.S. Presidents. She was a phenomenal cook and baker, knew how to make a house a home and most of all, she loved her family.
As Cordela said before she passed, “That I love you all dearly and I will see you again with Jesus.”
