

Harris F. “Buzz” Wachter, born March 2, 1918 at home in Sewickley Hills, son of the late Charles & Frances Wachter, husband of the late Mary S. Wachter for 54 years. Lived in Moon Twp since 1950 and retired from Dravo Corp. in 1980 after 21 years as a Machine Fitter. A WW II Navy Veteran having served for 30 months aboard the USS MONA ISLAND, a mine sweeper repair ship. Member of the Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church since 1946, member of the gospel group, “Angels of Harmony.” Harris was a volunteer at Sewickley Valley Hospital and Meals on Wheels since 1987. His volunteer work earned him the Jefferson Award in 2013. He was also awarded the 5 star Volunteer badge for those who have given at least 5,000 hours of service. A lifetime blood donor, former Mt. Nebo Grange and Allegheny Co. Grange Master, 7th degree Granger. Scout leader, very skilled ballroom and square dancer, very skilled flower and vegetable gardener. Buzz along with his brother Earl (US Navy) and his brother John (Army Air Force prisoner of war) played the same guard position on the Sewickley High School football team from 1934-1941. He also played sandlot football in Glenfield. He was a 1935 graduate of Sewickley High School. He is survived by his son, Renwick C. Wachter and wife Jeannie of Beaver; 3 granddaughters, Christina Woods of Cleveland, and Sarah and Christa Wachter; as well as one sister, Carole Hebb of Baden.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Woods, a granddaughter Jaclyn Woods, brothers Earl and John and sisters, Ethel Crawford and Evelyn Eckley.
Special thanks to his friends Karen Laskey, Karen Lamphere, Moe & Jean Megrey and all his friends and neighbors who have helped him enjoy life throughout his years.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Hwy, Ross Twp, 412-364-4444. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11am in the Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church, followed by burial with Full military honors in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests your donations be given to the Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church and the Food Pantry.
