Dr Sartain was a very good and wonderful man to our family. He was my Dad's supervisor throughout his work at the University of Pittsburgh. May his legacies continue to live on. My condolences to the family . From Anene Iheanacho Ani.

Dear Noelle and the Sartain Family,

I first knew Dr. Sartain as an professor in the elementary education department at Pitt. He held his students to very high standards; students worked very hard to earn an "A" in his class! In the mid "60s I was hired to be a teacher at the Falk Elementary School, while Dr. Sartain was the director. Again, standards were high; teachers at the school felt that we were at the forefront of exciting educational theories. I have always felt it was a privilege to work with him.

To Noelle, and the Sartain family,
You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of your father. He was a wonderful man, and director of Falk School. I lost my parents over a decade ago, and I'm still trying to get over it.
I hope you remember me (Charlene Foggie)- we were close childhood friends at Falk, and your parents welcomed me into your home many times. Thanks for being such a good friend way back when, and perhaps we can reconnect sometime soon.

My sympathy to the Sartain family.  Harry Sartain  was a graduate professor of mine while I attended  Pitt's school of education in the early 70s.  Without question, he was the most knowledgable professor in the Reading and Language Arts Department. I learned much from him for which I was always greatful. Later, as a professor myself, I invited him to speak at The Citadel's First Annual Reading Conference,and his presentation was fantastic!

Our deepest sympathy. It was a pleasure to work with Dr. Sartain  in planting the Native American garden at Beechwood Farms for many years. He was a true gentleman and dedicated educator. We will miss his many wonderful stories. Bill Unrath and Barbara Lanke

To the Sartain Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Dr. Harry Sartain.  He was an exceptional educator who held students to high standards.  As a former graduate student and Assistant Instructor at Pitt, I found him to be professional, knowledgeable, wise, available, and supportive.     I remember taking one of his courses when he reminded the class that we were getting 3 hours of credit for 6 hours of work---what a bargain!  One of the most important lessons I learned was to be vigilant in my teaching while questioning success in the classroom.  Always the grand inquisitor, Dr. Sartain taught us to question and reflect on our responses.  I am thankful for his life, his graciousness, and genuine pride he felt toward graduate students who would eventually take state and national leadership roles in the reading field.   Our lives are brighter because of him.
