Jeanne Audrey Winters died on December 24, almost 88. She was a great mother to Kathy (Bann), Jim, and Sean; loving “GrandJeanne” to Shauna, Noah (Bann), and Giovanna; devoted daughter to Ursula and Albert Fritschle; and lifelong friend to Ruth Heimbuecher (they called each other “Ratface” for reasons long forgotten).
She was our firm moral compass, full of wisdom, and always, always honest; exasperatingly stubborn, but often spot on; curious about all things worldly and extra-worldly, from 17th Century Italian painting (her favorite) to string theory (which she tried to understand); a former cardiac nurse who loved medicine for a time, but eschewed doctors and hospitals always; avid surfer for news (mostly political) on the internet, but still called the computer “that thing”; understood people so well, but was bad at keeping in touch with friends; frugal usually, but extravagant when it mattered; quick to anger, but easy with love and kindness. She was, for us, our North, South, East, and West.
