

John Charles “Jack” King, born March 23, 1929 died peacefully at the age of 93 on May 31, 2022. John was the eldest of two sons born to Margaret Hieber King and John Henry King of Perrysville, Pa. He worked at King’s Dairy during his high school years and attended both Denison College and Penn State University where he graduated with a degree in Business. He furthered his education at the University of Pittsburgh and obtained an MBA. Early in his adult life he was in the Air Force stationed in Grand Rapids, MI. John married his college sweetheart, Mary Hope Powell in State College in 1953 and went on to raise two children, Kristin Hope and Michael John.
John had a long career in finance beginning at Mellon Bank. He later joined Merrill Lynch as a Senior Vice President where he was responsible for advising numerous banking institutions in the Pittsburgh area. In retirement John stayed active by volunteering with Animal Friends and later opened and operated a bed and breakfast in Connellsville, PA. John was a resident of Sherwood Oaks, Cranberry Township, PA where he continued to enjoy an active lifestyle and was known around the community for his daily walks with his dog, Molly. John sang in the choir at Dutilh United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Sherwood Oaks Choir.
John will be remembered for his sweet heart and thoughtful quiet manner, his advocacy for dogs and his zest for living. He was a good man and will be missed. John is survived by his children, Kristi Karsh, and Mike (Pam)King, grandchildren, Colby (Robyn) King, Molly Karsh, Josh (Ali) King, Ali Karsh, Jesse King, Madi (Cole) Fleetwood, Caleb Karsh and great grandchild, Theo King. Other surviving family members include a cousin, Marian Dambach of Ellwood City and nephews, Mark, David, and Doug King and their families.
A memorial service will be held at Dutilh United Methodist Church in Cranberry Township on August 7, 2022 at 2 pm. Donations in John’s memory may be made to: the Sherwood Oaks Fund, The John C. King Charitable Fund at the Pittsburgh Foundation or a no-kill animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
