Merrill Ronald Neely aka "Ronnie", of Pittsburgh, age 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and love January 17, 2026. Merrill is survived by his beloved wife, Beth; daughter, Madeline; son-in-law-to-be, Chris Stack; sister, Amy Wolstoncroft (Charlie); brother Sidney Neely; and countless nieces, nephews and in-laws. Merrill was preceded in death by his sister Carol and parents Dolly and Merrill Neely.
A deeply devoted husband and family man for more than 38 years, Merrill and Beth shared a full life together where they made countless cherished memories. He was an extraordinarily proud and loving father to his daughter, Madeline, whom he has supported unconditionally through every stage of her life; from (failed) dance recitals, all-star softball games, college graduations, and always being ready to ride her and her friends anywhere they wanted. He was always there to be the best dad. Merrill took great joy in telling anyone who would listen that his daughter was a doctor—never bothering to explain what kind. They bonded over “Maddy Daddy” days, trips, dog sitting duties, and DIY tasks. He also delighted in showing off photos of his beloved dog, Chief, and his sweet grand-dog, Tootsie, to anyone who seemed even a little bit interested.
Family was always at the center of Merrill’s world. He loved traveling together, attending sporting events, and spending quality time creating memories now treasured by those who loved him most. Known for his friendly nature and quick wit, Merrill always had a joke, story, or a warm smile ready. Merrill enjoyed good rock and roll music, an occasional cold beer, and good bar food. A lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, he loved cheering on his teams and sharing that passion with family and friends. The Pirates were his favorite team; he was lucky to attend hundreds of games over the years (including a few dozen wins). Though the past few seasons tested his patience, he remained hopeful—and was even able to outlast Mike Tomlin’s Pittsburgh tenure. He will continue rooting for another Super Bowl and World Series to return to the ’Burgh.
As someone who was tragically taken too soon, he will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His love, laughter, and devotion to family—and his dogs—will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Always helpful and generous, Merrill chose for his last act of kindness to be donating his organs and tissues through CORE in order to save other lives.
Merrill’s family would love if you could please leave your favorite memory or story of Merrill in the condolences below. Nothing is too short or long; all notes will be made into a memory book to continue his legacy.
A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry HWY Pittsburgh, PA 15237 on Sunday January 25th from 10 AM until 2PM with the service immediately following. Due to weather we understand if you cannot make it. Please reach out to Beth or Madeline about a modified wake following the service. Stay safe.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Merrill’s memory to the rescue who put his cherished dog, Chief, in our lives. Or even better, adopt one of their senior dogs. Gray Paws Sanctuary 2909 Jacks Run Road White Oak, PA 15131 www.graypaws.org
