

Nicholas C. Mitchell, age 79, of Gibsonia passed away November 11, 2009. Loving husband of the late Grace Mitchell. Father of George N. (Janet) of Mars, PA, Dennis W. (Amy) of Florida, Nicholas C. (LouAnn) of Gibsonia, Max H. (Jenny) of Connecticut & Grace Lynne Mitchell of Florida; Grandfather of Tamarra, Nicholas, Alexandria, Max, Rachel, Katie, Nicholas Mitchell & Pamela (Alex) Litman; Great-Grandfather of Kayla & McKinley. Also survived by his long time companion Judith Sherrill, and sisters, Mildred Caridis, Athena Malanos & Helen Kontis; and was preceded by his brother Gus. Nick was a Veteran of U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. After his retirement he enjoyed the game of golf along with his wife Grace. He was a member of the Highland Country Club, Treesdale Country Club, Heathrow Country Club in Florida and the Duquesne Club here in Pittsburgh. Nick was also an active member of the St. Christopher Episcopal Church in Warrendale. Nick was a true entrepreneur; he started many companies in his career. Most recently, he founded Mitchell Industries and purchased Fibercon International Inc. from the US Steel Corporation. Together with his sons, George and Nicholas, they grew the business into one of the leading international companies for steel fiber reinforcement. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1032 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp. 412-364-4444; where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:30 am with Rev. Christopher Barker. Interment will follow the service at Allegheny County Memorial Park.
