
Dick graduated from West View (Pa) High School, where he was a pitcher on the baseball team. He continued his education and pitching career at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. After graduation, he attended seminary at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and was ordained a Presbyterian minister. He was called to serve at the Gibson Hts. – 2nd U.P. Church in Youngstown, OH, where he served for more than 40 years until his retirement. After retiring, Dick served as a substitute minister in Presbyterian churches in northeast Ohio.
He continued his love of sports throughout his life, umpiring baseball and softball games, as well as serving as chaplain to a local high school football team. Dick was an avid golfer and a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also continued his education, earning a doctorate from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
On March 7, 1980, Dick married Elizabeth Engber, who survives him. They moved to Seattle after Dick’s retirement. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Everett of Defiance, OH.
Dick was a wonderful uncle to Betty’s children, Dave Everett and Jean Everett Cohoon. He took Dave, along with Dave’s dad, Horace, to his first professional baseball game between the Pirates and the Cardinals at the old Forbes Field. Dave and Jean fondly recall Dick playing games with them when they all visited the home of their Grandparents Steele in Wexford, PA.
