Robert “Bob” Schwer, 90, of Wexford, PA passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2023. He was born in Munhall, PA to Thomas and Anne (Perhach) Schwer on July 29, 1932. He grew up in Munhall and worked hard to put himself through college, including working at a steel mill. He attended Duquesne University, graduating with his degree in Accounting. Upon graduating from Duquesne, he joined the Air Force and served at McCoy AFB outside of Orlando, Florida. While there, he met the love of his life, Joyce DeRosier, his wife of 65 years, while they were both singing in the Bach choir. They were married on June 22, 1957. After living and working in Florida for several years and having their first son, Robert and Joyce moved to Pittsburgh, where they would have three more children and live the remainder of their lives. In 1973, Robert founded his CPA firm, R.T. Schwer and Associates in Pittsburgh, to which he dedicated much of his life, eventually passing on the business to his son Thomas. He fully retired in 2016.
Robert will be remembered as a generous, devoted, and loyal son, brother, husband, father, and brother-in-law. From the time his children were small up until the present, he made it a priority to get the extended family together in Florida once a year, to enjoy each other’s company as well as visit with his wife’s family members who still lived in Florida. This has been a highlight in all his family’s lives. He was generous in not only helping his children, but also his grandchildren attend college and get a good start to their adult lives. He had a gentle manner and sense of humor and was a constant pillar in his family’s lives.
Throughout his life he had an interest in learning the German language and his family had a memorable Germany vacation when the children were young. He enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with his wife; Switzerland and Germany were his favorites, and he would have loved to have visited them one more time. They also explored many of the National Parks throughout the United States. He was quite interested in ancestry and spent much time building family trees and interviewing relatives for his research. He had a love of learning and enjoyed reading nonfiction to further educate himself. He was a big fan of all of the Pittsburgh sports teams, but especially the Penguins.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Joyce. He is survived by his four children, Thomas (Janice) Schwer, Karen (William) Trackim, Gary (Maria) Schwer, and Douglas (Maggie) Schwer; grandchildren Christine, Gary Jr., Allison, Madilyn, Stephanie, Natalie, Talia, Andrew, Jadon, and Elena; his sister Susan Benaquista; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 12pm at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1000 Avila Court, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Interment to follow at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, 204 Cemetery Lane, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
