Barbara Lynn Bogart, 76, of El Dorado, California, passed away at her home on October 25, 2011, after a short illness. She was lovingly cared for by her husband, children, and sister. Born in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Howard and Margaret Hampton Reed on September 24, 1935, Barbara was raised on the family farm near Buhl, Idaho, graduating from Buhl High School in 1953.
Barbara married Paul Brown of Buhl, but they were later divorced. Five wonderful children were born to Barbara during her first marriage. She was a strong, caring mother who always put the needs of her children first and raised the three youngest girls on her own.
Upon moving from Buhl in 1960 to Sacramento, California, Barbara worked as a secretary at Aerojet-General. She took a few years off to raise her own children and also provided daycare for a number of other children. She then returned to her 27-year career at Aerojet-General, progressing from secretarial positions to executive assistant for the president of the company.
Barbara met Bruce Bogart, her husband, at Aerojet. Married on January 8, 1994, Barbara and Bruce spent 17 years together—years rich with love, companionship, and dedication to each other. These were years of profound happiness for Barbara. A surprise delight was going to a Willie Nelson concert on their last anniversary. Willie really made her toes tap!
Known for sharing and giving to others, Barbara’s generosity touched family and friends alike. She was dedicated to the welfare of her handicapped sister Judy. She was so proud of her children and cherished each one. She was the grandmother we all strive to be and loved every minute of it—teaching, spoiling, participating in all events, and loving all of them unconditionally. Barbara could accomplish more in one day than most dare dream about doing. Whether it be sewing, quilting, cooking, canning, gardening, or refinishing antiques, the results were always astounding. This past summer she planned a quilting camp for two daughters and four granddaughters—just one of many such treasured memories. She was fondly referred to as “camp director” for any large or small family gatherings.
One yearly much anticipated activity was traveling to or hosting a three-day reunion with her Buhl High School friends known as the The Ladybugs. These enduring friendships held a special place in her heart. Oh, to have had a glass to the wall on those occasions! Learning, laughter, and love abounded as always when in Barbara’s presence.
