Carl “Bart” Ernest Bartholomew passed away in Fairfield, Ca on June 7, 2013. Bart was preceded in death by his son, Robert Duane, wife Helen and second wife, Wanda. Survived by his companion, Virginia Domingos, Sons, Robert Craig and William Collins and his wife Candee, Paul John and wife Nanette and daughter Kathy. Grandfather of Melissa, Angel Jacob, Sean, Paul, Jr. and great grandchild, Ava.
Bart was raised on a farm in the Midwest and went to country school and moved to Courtland, Kansas to go to High School until the eleventh grade. Bart served in the US Marine Corps, entering at the age of 17, and served in Korea during the Korean War. In 1952 he went to work for Standard Oil Co. of CA now Chevron USA. He retired from the Richmond refinery and retired after 43 years and 7 months. At the age to 60 he received his High School Diploma and continued to take college classes for several years after.
Bart and Wanda moved to Somerset in 1970 and also had a ranch in Idaho. In 1997 Bart and Virginia also lived in Somerset and moved to Placerville in recent years. Bart belonged to the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and SIRS. Bart collected and restored antique tractors and studied the history of American songs as well as played the guitar and harmonica.
A visitation will be held tomorrow, Thursday, June 13 from 5 to 8 pm at Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, 2855 Cold Springs Rd., Placerville. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Westwood Hills Memorial Park, Placerville. Contributions in Bart’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. or the American Cancer Society.
