Ernest C. Zimmer was born on December 20, 1912. He passed from this world just five months shy of his 100th birthday. He was born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada. He came from a farming family and he and his brother also farmed until coming to the United States in the early 1950's. Ernest became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He lived for many years in Soquel, California, where he, his brother John, and his nephew Jack, or Jackie as he called him, owned a automotive repair shop. Upon retirement, Ernest moved to Placerville and lived with his sister, Norma Patrick, until her passing about ten years ago. He then resided alone, taking care of his needs himself and driving until just a couple years ago. He was a very independent man! By far his favorite person was his nephew, Jack, who preceded him in death after a sudden illness, just two months ago. Ernest was very saddened by the passing of his nephew and we are pretty sure he is happy now, with Jackie, repairing or building something. Ernest was a very intelligent man and at the age of 99 was reading Russian to English and German to English dictionaries. He had a passion for learning and was self-taught. "Uncle Ernie" will be missed greatly but we know his health has now been restored and he is enjoying the company of the loved ones that passed before him. He is survived by Monica Martin, his niece, and Kathy, his "favorite niece-in-law" who is also Jackie's wife, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
