Born 100 years ago in Littleton, Utah, Ethel Robinson peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012. A resident of Placerville, California for nearly 80 years, Ethel was born on April 10, 1911 and was one of three children. Her family moved from Utah to Gridley, California when Ethel was a young girl. After graduating from Gridley High School, Ethel, who was always hard working, decided to make a change from life in the country and moved to San Francisco. While working in San Francisco, her plans were pleasantly interrupted when she became engaged to Dean Robinson who was getting his degree from the University of San Francisco Pharmacy School. They married in 1934. Dean and Ethel moved to Placerville to start their family and it was in Placerville that they made their home and raised their children, Gary and Janis.
She was an active member of Eastern Star and the Cold Springs Golf Club in the 1960’s, was an avid gardener well into her 80’s and enjoyed playing bridge at the Shakespeare Club. Ethel loved knitting sweaters for her family and also little hats and blankets for newborn babies at the local hospital.
Her family and friends joined her to celebrate her 100th birthday last April and will treasure those memories forever.
Ethel was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a dear friend to all.
Ethel was preceded in death by Dean in 1990 after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her son Gary Robinson and wife Sandy of Placerville; her daughter Janis Jacobs and husband Bill of San Diego; her two granddaughters Julie Duey of Placerville and Kelly Speer of La Jolla; and her two great-grandsons Zachery and Joshua Duey whom she loved and adored.
A private memorial service was held on February 10th at Westwood Hills Memorial Park.
