

George Arthur Wiglesworth passed away on March 7, 2012 at the age of 96. He was born May 17, 1915 in Placerville, the son of Marjorie Francis Wills Wiglesworth and William Henry Wiglesworth, the 4th of 13 children. George is survived by his loving wife Joan Lucas Wiglesworth, and his children, Judith (Raymond) Cheek and Charles (Dorris) Wiglesworth. Brother of Richard Wiglesworth and Marjorie Jean West. Grandfather of Dylan (Cindy) Taylor, Tara (Marshall) Conner and Denise (Casey) Call. Great Grandfather of Ryan Taylor and Shaylynn and Brianna Call. George was predeceased by both of his parents, step-son Stanley Spell and his siblings, Gladys Lockhart, Ruth Marchini, Evelyn Kelly, “Happy” Ward, Eleanor, Jimmy, Robert, Kenneth, Leland and Arnold Wiglesworth.
George spent many years helping his mother and learning the painting trade from his father. He ended up painting for over 55 years. George was very proud of being drafted in the Army and spent almost 5 years in the South Pacific. He and 17 members of the Regimental Combat Team were honored to be taken to Japan and be next to the battleship USS Missouri for the signing of the peace treaty.
After retirement, George took up the hobby of woodworking. He made 47” high doll houses for the El Dorado High School Alumni for the Scholarship Fund. He enjoyed that so much he also made coat trees, barrel chairs, patio furniture, book cases and even a roll top desk. George and Joan still found time to wear out 2 motor homes and travel the United States several times, across Canada and even Alaska. He spent 7 years as President and worker for the Babe Ruth League, 2 terms as President of the El Dorado High School Alumni Assoc and a charter member of S.I.R.S., #137 and an El Dorado County Historical Society member.
Friends and family are invited to a Graveside Service Friday, March 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm, Westwood Hills Memorial Park, 2720 Cold Springs Rd., Placerville, CA.
