

Howard C Root went home to be with Jesus on September 24, 2010 at the age of 90 with his loving family around him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Thelma, his sister Helen Hutchinson and brothers James, Charles, Robert and John Root.
He was born February 15, 1920 in Cleveland Ohio to John and Lillie Root. His father, his sister and three brothers were well known for their vaudeville act as “the Root family of fast-steppers” his father also had a tap dance studio where a teenage Bob Hope was his most famous student. The family moved to California in 1923 where his father continued teaching many Hollywood stars until his death in 1930. Howard grew up in Los Angeles and in 1943 joined the US Army Air Corp and was deployed to Europe under General George S Patton. He received the good conduct medal and European African Middle eastern campaign medal. In 1949 he married Thelma Brown. In 1956 they moved to Camino which they called gods country. He held various jobs such as a member of the crew that constructed the original Weber Creek Bridge over Hwy 50 and Michigan Cal lumber company. In 1971 they moved to Pollock pines where they owned and operated Root TV together with Howard’s Brother John. Howard and Thelma loved fishing, boating, camping and traveling the US. Howards love for god and his family was apparent to all who knew him. He is survived by his nephew Howard Hutchinson (Julie), nieces Susie Wetsel (John) Helen Jane Martin (RD) Cheryl Sandstrom (Bob), five great nephews and one great niece, 11 great-great nephews and nieces and step grandson Stephen McManus. He is also survived by his special friend Jan Lipicky who brought so much joy into his life. A memorial service in celebration of Howards extraordinary life of service and caring for others will be Thursday September 30, 11:00am at Chapel of the Pines Placerville. Visitation, wednesday evening from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Westwood Hills Memorial park. Contributions are preferred to a favorite charity.
