

John James Healy III of Cameron Park, California, died peacefully at the age of 90 in his home on Monday, January 20, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Doris Renee Healy, 17 granchildren, 14 great-granchildren, his sister Maureen Nolan, and three daughters and two sons: Karen Billings of Grass Valley, CA, John Healy of Washington, Utah, Denise Alonzo of Pollock Pines, CA, Stephen Healy of Santa Monica, CA, and Christine Williams of Auburn, CA.
Born in Oakland, California, John graduated from both Saint Mary's High School, Berkeley, CA and St. Mary's College, in Moraga, CA. He received his master's degree in education from California State University at Hayward and Educational Doctorate from the University of La Verne in Southern CA.
John attended St. Joseph's seminary in Mountain View, California, for a brief period in his teens, where he was taught by the Sulpician Fathers and learned, Latin and Greek, appreciation of classical music and mostly how to study.
A fifth generation Californian with roots in Coloma and the Gold Rush of 1849, John married his high school sweetheart, Renee Porlier, and they raised their five children in Oakland and then Alameda, California.
As a young family man, he worked the graveyard shift as a patrol officer for the City of Alameda Police Department, while he studied and obtained his teaching credential. Most of his adult career was an educator: a high school history teacher, dean of students, counselor and vice principal at San Lorenzo and Alameda High Schools, various positions as a principal at elementary and middle schools in Alameda, and retired District Curriculum Coordinator for the San Lorenzo Unified High School District. He then joined the Education Dept. at his alma matter, St. Mary's College for four years until full retirement.
He loved and excelled in athletics, particularly football, basketbll and baseball in school then played on season of semi-professional football for the Oakland Rams. His entire adult life he loved to ski, golf, play tennis and had a fondness for playing billiards at the Alameda Elks club on Friday nights. He loved to watch San Francisco 49ers and in his later years, the NWSL and USWNT women's professional soccer games.
His children often speak of the three summer camping trips the family took in the 1960s- to Vancouver, Canada, Yellowstone National Park and Guadalajara, Mexico. John and Renee retired in 1996 to a home they designed and built near the first hole of Cameron Park County Club where he was active in the community with several civic and social groups and at Holy Trinity Parish in Faith Formation and as Lector on Sundays. In his seventies, he volunteered with Snowline Hospice and at age 90 availed himself of their services.
A Mass celebrating his life will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 3111 Tierra de Dios Dr., El Dorado Hills, CA 95762, at 11:30 am., February 21, 2025.
