On Tuesday, November 5th, 2019, Ken Strangfeld, loving husband, father of two daughters and grandfather to five, passed away at the age of 68 after a short battle with cancer. Ken was born on April 8th, 1952 in San Francisco to George and Mary Strangfeld.
He obtained his license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in October of 1984. He worked for the University of California and Contra Costa Community College District as well as many other business and organizations before retiring in 2014. On December 29th, 1970, he married Eileen Fisher. Together they raised Roberta and Jennifer Strangfeld.
Ken was a lifelong “rock hound” and gathered rocks and semi-precious stones from everywhere he visited. He also loved to photograph places and events and could often be seen embarrassing a daughter or grandchild as he tried to get that “perfect shot.” And he loved laughter. He was known to be extremely bad at telling jokes (messing up punch lines and then laughing at his mistakes). Ken also possessed the gift of compassion for his fellow human beings and volunteered for many boards and events including the Grizzly Flats Fire Safe Council, the California Indian Storytelling Festival, the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, the Storytelling Association of Alta California, the Hyde Park School Board and Girl Scouts of America. Ken was preceded in death by his father, George, his sister, Joyce and his son, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, his two daughters Roberta and Jennifer, his grandchildren, Forest, Zoe, Lola, Stella and William, his mother, Mary and his sister, Janice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 1pm at the Chapel of the Pines located at 2855 Cold Springs Road in Placerville followed by a Celebration of Life at 3pm at Saluti Cellars located at 7505 Grizzly Flat Road in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ken’s honor to the Pioneer Volunteer Firefighters Association.
