Ray Edward Whitney

Ray was born and raised in Placerville and attended El Dorado High School. He passed away April 11, 2012, following a long illness. He is the beloved husband of 46 years to Sue, much loved father of Scott and Shawn (Dina) and Papa to Shawn Michael. Also survived by siblings; Ron Whitney, Judy Shipman, Jamie Baxley, Barbara Varness, Merriann White and Loralei Butts, and the late Gary Young along with many nieces and nephews that he enjoyed spending holidays and vacations with.

Ray was a 30+ year employee of Michigan Cal Lumber Company in Camino. He enjoyed snowmobiling and ATV riding, throughout California and neighboring states with his many friends and family. His greatest passion was Stock Car racing and was a two time Placerville Track Champion, only giving it up to support his son Shawn in his Sprint Car endeavor and later his grandson in Moto Cross. Ray also loved woodworking and creating craft projects with Sue and was an active member of the 20/30 club for many years.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life Open House, Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 11:30am to 5:30pm at The Firefighters Memorial Hall, 501 Main Street, Diamond Springs.
