On Sunday, November 29, 2020, Col Tello, Loving Husband and father of five children, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 in his home in Cameron Park, A. Col Tello was born on April 29th, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA to Caesar and Georgma Tello, however, was raised in San Francisco. Col Tello graduated from the University of San Francisco with a bachelors in political science, and went on to get his masters at the University of Maryland in history which became a lifelong passion shared by his children and grandchildren. In 1957, Col Tello started his military career in the
U.S. Army Medical Corp as a lieutenant and, for next 30 years, he would find himself stationed around the world, volunteering for the Vietnam War. His services was a model account; for which he was awarded many honors and distinctions. During his service, he would meet his wife Jacqueline, father 2 daughters, adopt and raise one son, and raise his niece and nephew like they were his children.
After retiring from the Armed Forces, Col Tello spent the next 32 years as a full time substitute teacher for middle and high schools in the Sacramento/El Dorado Counties as a language teacher. He also taught English as a second language to high school students that immigrated to the United States. Col. Tello also spent this time with his family, helping to raise his two grandchildren which he remained close with; often heard discussing history with his grandson. He was a great role model, husband, father, and grandfather. He was deeply religious, never missing a Sunday Mass or holy day of obligation intentionally. He loved to serve his country, family and God. His in-laws in France affectionately called him the "saint".
Col Tello is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Jacqueline; daughters Cathy, Mimie, and Mary; his two sons George and John; and his two grandchildren Rick and Minette.
