William (Bill) Joseph Schmitt entered into rest with God on Wednesday, June 29th 2016. He passed peacefully at his home in Pollock Pine, California with his wife and son by his side. Bill was 73 years old and succumbed to heart failure after a long and brave fight.
Bill was born in Glassport, Pennsylvania on January, 21 1943 to parents Joseph Schmitt and Ruth Winfield and was the youngest of 3 children. Bill joined the Air Force after high school and was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany where he played football and was selected for the All Europe Team. After his discharge Bill moved to Taft, California where he attending Junior college and played football. Bill transferred to USF on a football scholarship where he earned a degree in Sociology. While still attending college, Bill started to work part time at San Francisco Youth Guidance Center as a counselor. After graduating Bill began working full time at San Francisco Youth Guidance Center and split time between Juvenile Hall in SF and The Boys Ranch in La Honda, Ca until he retired in 1998 as a Supervising Counselor and relocated to Pollock Pines (Natures Wonderland). Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, playing tennis with his wife, family outings to the beach, Lake Tahoe, and camping and hiking in Yosemite and watching his beloved 49ners.
Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lucille Veronica Schmitt who was Bill’s angel, son David Mark Wilson, daughters Julie Ann Wilson and Michelle Ann Schmitt, Daughter-in-law Valerie Wilson and grandchildren Andrew and Serena Wilson, Brother-in-law John Martinez and wife Beth Martinez, Sister-in-law Virginia Lewis. Bill is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and good friends.
Services for Bill will be held on Thursday, July 7th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 3190 Sacramento St. Placerville. Rosary will begin at 10:00 followed by a mass at 10:30 then interment at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. There will a reception at the Gurnell Hall right next to the church.
