

Born on July 9, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to Elbert James Mandeville and Adelaide Quade Mandeville, Arlene attended the Cathedral School of St. Mary’s in Garden City before going on to college at St. Lawrence University and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1955. She moved to Old Bethpage in 1959 where she lived until just before her passing. Arlene also spent many enjoyable family summers at her parents’ home on Shelter Island.
Arlene loved being with her family, enjoying good food and socializing, traveling, going to movies and plays with friends, and was active for many years in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview. Arlene was pre-deceased by her husband Frederick Wittwer in 1993 and her longtime companion Stan Waite in 2010. She is survived by her children, Robert Kloepfer (Linda) of Gainesville, FL, Kathryn Hodgkinson (Frank) of Yorktown Heights, NY, Frederick Wittwer (Eileen) of Charlottesville, VA and John Wittwer (Joan) of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY; as well as 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend Alex Forti of South Setauket.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8pm. Funeral Service Tuesday 10am at Good Shepard Lutheran Church. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 99 Central Park Rd, Plainview, NY 11803.
