Aubrey “Skip” Nelson Steele, 76, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025. He was born on April 18, 1949, in Jacksonville, Texas, and lived a life marked by faith, craftsmanship, humor, and deep love for others.
Skip was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He went on to build a long and accomplished career in the construction industry, where he was widely respected for his expertise, work ethic, and mastery of AutoCAD and 3D drawing. His technical skill, attention to detail, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on colleagues and peers throughout his career.
On November 14, 2000, Skip married Deborah Steele, beginning a loving partnership grounded in devotion, faith, and companionship.
A man of deep belief, Skip loved God and passionately discussed the Bible, always eager to share scripture, insight, and encouragement. His faith guided his life and shaped the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He was sweet, loving, and forgiving by nature, and his presence brought comfort and joy to those around him.
Skip had a true zest for life. He enjoyed hunting, music, and movies, and he especially loved to talk—often sharing stories, laughter, and jokes. His boisterous laugh was unforgettable and could fill a room in seconds. Towering at 6'2" and 258 pounds, he carried himself with confidence and a distinctive walk reminiscent of Steven Seagal, a detail many fondly remember.
Respected by his peers and cherished by family and friends, Aubrey “Skip” Steele will be remembered for his generous spirit, strong faith, sharp mind, and joyful sense of humor. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the wisdom he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah, and his children Christine Harden, Wendy Barnett, and Danaea Steele, his grandchild Brooke Merten, and his sisters Karen Wise, Debra Duke, and Elizabeth Wheat.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Dickey Funeral Home.
