Cavin Jeff Jeffers

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of longtime FUMC Plano member Jeff Jeffers who died early Sunday morning, October 10, 2021, at his home under the care of Envoy Hospice after an 11-year battle with renal cancer.

Jeff, 79, was born November 30, 1941, in Floydada, TX, to Kenneth Allen Jeffers and Lillie Pearl Rigsby. He graduated from Childress High School where he was active in all sports, and then from North Texas University with a Bachelor of Science ED in 1966 , where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Jeff moved to Plano in 1967 and joined First United Methodist Church Plano. There he served and chaired many committees and was asked to start the Vanguard and 11th Hour Sunday school classes. He also worked with the youth by helping cook Sunday night meals with Joy and James Lewis and went on youth ski trips in Wesley's Wagon when Glenda Henry was youth director. He played on the church ball teams and after he retired was a Yardbird for almost 20 years. The Yardbirds and the Senior Softball Team

were his favorite activities.

Jeff served from 1970-1978 on the Parks and Recreation Board and was a volunteer for the Crisis Center of Collin county for five years.

Jeff is survived by his wife Laura, son Jay (Michael Purdy), son Kyle (Kristen), and stepdaughter Diane Mills; grandchildren Molly Bolte (Brad), Madison Reed, Wynn Jeffers, Knox Jeffers; great grandson Owen Bolte, his first wife Mary Jeffers Martell, brother Joe (Connie) and many more family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson Jack Rogers.

Jeff's Celebration of Life will be at on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Plano, with a reception to follow.
