

Edgardo “Ed” C. DeGuia was born on July 1, 1953 in Manila, Philippines. He worked in the hospitality industry and held several positions from security officer to food and beverage manager in major hotels in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He studied martial arts and was a degreed black belt in Shotokan Karate. Ed was born to Gloria and Felipe DeGuia and was the youngest of four children. He attended Emilio Jacinto Elementary, Far Eastern High School, and San Beda College, which are all located in the Philippines. In 1973, he married Tess DeGuia. They had three children, Maybelle DeGuia (Fontenarosa), Edgar DeGuia, and Michelle DeGuia.
He will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather to his family. He was a kind man and was well liked by friends because of his happy and funny disposition. The one accomplishment that really changed his life was that he was a National Karate Championship in the Philippines in his twenties. Until the last week of his life, he still practiced his Katas daily.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Plano and a member of the Wesley Group Bible Study.
Ed is survived by his spouse, Tess DeGuia (Dallas); son, Edgar DeGuia (Dallas); daughters, Maybelle DeGuia Fontenarosa (Garland), Michelle DeGuia (Dallas); son-in-law, Alex Fontenarosa (Garland); grandson, A.J. Fontenarosa (Garland); and brother, Felipe DeGuia, Jr. (Philippines).
