Gary graduated from Clairemont High School in San Diego, CA in 1960. Gary later received his Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from Columbia Pacific University.
He went on to serve his country in the US Army from 1960 to 1969, with a courageous tour in Vietnam as a Sergeant First Class, combat medic from 1966-1967 with the 101st Airborne Division. On Gary’s final assignment at William Beaumont General Hospital, in El Paso, Texas, Gary met and married the love of his life, Linda Olson. The two were married on December 19, 1969.
Gary had a career in Medical Manufacturing and sales for Sunrise Medical Company, and Joerns Healthcare. He was an avid member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and later at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Gary served at both churches as a Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed fellowship and serving others with the Knights of Columbus, Corpus Christi ministry, Meals on Wheels and ACTS (Adoration, Community, Theology, Service). Gary also spent over a decade serving as a youth minister along with Linda at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. One of the services Gary was most honored and proud to be a part of was volunteering at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Despite his own illness, Gary still found a way to serve and mentor at the VA Hospital letting young, wounded soldiers know they were loved and appreciated.
In his free time, Gary had a passion for reading the Bible and other faith-based literature, fishing, sports, traveling and front yard football games. He will be remembered for the unconditional love he showed to all, especially his family. He was known as an amazing storyteller.
He is survived by his wife Linda Olson; sons Dan (Tiffany), Andy and Alex (Beth); Grandchildren Chad, Shae Lynn, Lauren, Hayden, Heather, Brooke, Alex, Seth, and Taylor; sisters Ellen Tighe, Sharon Shew (Earl), Eveleyn Uhrich; sisters-in-law Patricia Fisher, Virginia Acosta (Don), Leticia Moreno and brother-in-law John Moreno (Kim).
