

Glenn Haggard Rush was born on October 30, 1933 in Plano, Texas at his Grandmother’s home. He passed away at his residence of 35 years in Plano, Texas on June 16, 2011. He is survived by his four children, Michele Rowe of Avinger, TX, husband, Michael; Kevin Rush of Forney, TX, wife, Holly; Melanie Campbell of Plano, TX, husband, David; and Claudia Brashier of Allen, TX, husband, Jason. He also leaves behind, sister, Sue Tankersley of Plano, TX, husband John; brother, Tommie Mankins of Crandall, TX, wife Debbie; sister-in-law, Rosemary Borden of Avinger, TX, husband, Ted; brother-in-law, Purvis Welch of Garland, TX, wife, Theda; sister-in-law, Gay Welch of Garland, TX; sister-in-law, Karen Akins of Texarkana, TX, sister-in-law, Sammie Nelson of Greenville, TX, husband, Terry. Other survivors include 19 grandchildren: Sarah Nguyen, Jared Rowe, Nick and Erin Gerner, Ty Gerner, Katherine and Blake Watson, Lindsey Rush, Saundra Rush, Kurtis Rush, Jessica Campbell, Grace and Sean Bellows, Shelby Campbell, Natalie Campbell, Riley Campbell, Jack Brashier, Jonah Brashier and Gene Brashier. Also surviving members are 5 great-grandchildren, Chloe Campbell, Joseph Campbell, Kolton Nguyen, Harlee Nguyen and Merrian Gerner. He graduated high school in 1951 from Plano High School, served in the U.S Navy from 1953 – 1957, obtained his undergraduate degree in Education from North Texas State College in 1960 and his Masters of Education in Public School Administration from North Texas State University in 1974. Glenn married Willo Jean Welch July 19, 1958 in Denton, Texas after a whirlwind courtship of three (3) months. His first teaching job was at, Cullen Junior High School and then Madison High School, both in the Houston ISD. He also drove a bus for school district. He and his family of five (5) returned to Plano in 1971. They were blessed with a surprise pregnancy shortly after coming home to Plano. His first teaching job in the Plano ISD was at Wilson Middle School. He also worked at the Administration Building as Curriculum Director of History and then as Assistant Principal at Shepton High School. He retired from the Plano Independent School District in 1997 after 37 years as an educator. In his retirement, Glenn enjoyed photography, westerns, listening to “his” music, weekly breakfast fellowship with the men of the First Christian Church, watching and attending various sporting events and attending and serving at the First Christian Church of Plano. But what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family, watching his grandkids make their parents crazy. He is preceded by his wife of 46 years, Willo Jean Welch Rush, mother, Gladys Mankins, father, Claude Rush, grandmother, Bertha Haggard. He will be missed by many friends and family.
