If it was an outdoor activity, Jimmie loved it. He was an avid water skier, flyer of hang gliders, fisherman & sometimes hunter. Jimmie loved target shooting & was an active ham radio operator. W5COA was his call sign. Jimmie was never happier than when sharing these interests & teaching others. He opened his Athens property to the Scout Troops for their camping & other activities. He loved being around these boys, teaching them to appreciate the outdoors & helping to guide them into being responsible young men. In recent years, Jimmie had become more interested & active in nature conservancy & he had also dusted off his trombones & became active in two local bands. They played for residents at several assisted living facilities & nursing homes. He was really looking forward to performing at the Denton Arts Festival at the end of April.
Jimmie began his career as an electrical engineer in Houston, but re-located to Dallas, in the mid-sixties, to work for Collins Radio on the Apollo Space Program communications program. He worked for a number of telecommunication companies, before retiring & enjoying more of his outdoor activities. He & his granddaughter Khloe, spent many happy hours on Lake Palestine.
