John was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Gayle Phillips, his brother, William Phillips, and his parents, John and Theresia Phillips. He is survived by his two children: John David Phillips and Gayle Phillips Harden, grandchildren: Zoe, Ian, and Lily, and great-grandchildren: Unique, Violet, and Julian.
Mr. Phillips was born in Dallas, Texas on February 18, 1943. He graduated in 1961 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas where he met his wife, Peggy Gayle Hundley. They were married on November 14, 1964. They briefly lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, while John completed his service with the Atomic Energy Commission, and then returned to Texas where they have lived since.
John was completely devoted to his family, always protecting and providing for them. His positive attitude and good-natured humor were legendary, even as his health deteriorated. We will always remember that ever-present twinkle in his eye and mischievous grin. He could literally talk to anyone and had a special talent for really putting people at ease. John never complained when a job had to be done, and he was truly selfless when it came to others... always willing to help someone in need, regardless of the circumstances. He was the most loving husband, father, and grandfather one could hope for, and he will be missed more than words can ever express.
In lieu of flowers, the family feels that John would best be honored by a donation in his name to "Operation Kindness" or "Feral Friends."
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.TedDickeyFuneral.com for the Phillips family.
