He was born to the late Richard and Dorothy Sander. Dick was married to Saundra Nelson, and they had 62 wonderful years of marriage.
He is survived by his sons James Sander and Richard Sander, along with granddaughters Mary Newport and Jamie Sander, and great-grandson Myles Newport. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Roberta and Anita. Dick and Saundra loved to spend time with family and friends. Together, they especially enjoyed the years of being grandpa and grandma playing with grandchildren.
Dick was a friend to everyone and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was kind-hearted, always smiling with a unique sense of humor. He worked at Rockwall International and Alcatel Communications. He graduated from Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1960. He often attended class reunions where he caught up with old friends and showed off his granddaughters.
Dick enjoyed spending time presenting his Corvette at car shows. He took pleasure in letting his sons and granddaughters drive them. When he was not with his Corvette, he enjoyed spending time fishing with his sons. He won numerous fishing tournaments and led his fishing club with James as his partner. While at home, he spent countless hours in his HAM Shack operating his own radio station, K5QY. He offered online tutorials to those novice HAM radio operators. He always looked forward to field day, to compete with other HAM radio stations. In his early years, he enjoyed motocross, bringing home the trophy on several occasions.
Upon retirement, he took woodshop classes and built several heirlooms like a rocking chair and a toybox for his granddaughters. Dick and Saundra enjoyed spending time together competing with each other while watching Classic Concentration. NASCAR seemed to always be on when available. He took pride in caring for his yard throughout the years.
He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
