Rita Jeanne Puryear Schroeder was born December 17, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana to Sebren Thomas Puryear and Mary Chittick Puryear and died February 20, 2012, age 81. Rita was raised in the greater Chicago area and graduated from Munster Public School and Hammond High School. Following her 1952 graduation from Purdue University, Rita managed the cafeteria for the IBM plant in Greencastle, IN. She married George Joeseph Schroeder on December 26, 1960 and most of the next 51 years of her life she spent caring for others. For her children she became a Girl Scout cookie chairman, the original soccer mom and a perpetual volunteer for band candy fundraisers. Rita and her husband were Kwik Kopy owners and she meticulously kept the books for their business for 30 years. Additionally, her home was known as Camp Schroeder for many dogs who vacationed in her care. She was a longtime member of the crochet class at the Richardson Senior Center. Rita had a special talent for cooking; she shared countless delicious dinners with beautiful food presentation and enjoyed sharing her recipes with others. Most of all, Rita loved her family and loved her friends. They were the beneficiaries of her faithfulness and her giving nature. Rita was preceded in death in 2008 by her husband, George Schroeder. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Schroeder and our Lian; son, Tim Schroeder, MD; and granddaughter, Ana Marie Schroeder. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, February 24, at 10:30am at St Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plano. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 23, 6pm to 8pm at Ted Dickey Funeral Home - Plano.
