

William Louis Bauer Jr. (Bill) was born in Galveston, TX on December 29, 1924 to parents William Bauer Sr. and Louise Bauer. In 1946 he married Alene and raised their 3 children in Houston, TX. A veteran of WWII and the Korean War, he served more than 20 years in the US Army achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He then devoted 20 years to the United States Postal Service. He also served as church Trustee for St. Phillip Lutheran Church in Houston, TX and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Centerville, TX. In addition to serving his country and his church, Bill loved golfing, hunting, driving his tractor, and coaching softball. He served as the commissioner of a softball league in Alief, TX and led a ladies softball team to a state championship. Many will also remember Bill for his award-winning BBQ, which he enjoyed sharing often with family and friends. Bill is survived by his wife, Alene, his children, Michelle Grundmann, Michael Bauer, and Melanie Bauer. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kyle, Alisa, Tobin, Nikki, Jennifer, and Leane. Bill's legacy will live on in his 6 great-grandchildren as well. Bill is preceded in death by his granddaughter, August Bauer. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 19th at 12 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church in McKinney, TX. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 to 11am, prior to the service. Following the service, there will be a procession to the DFW National Cemetery for a graveside service at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Operation Homefront (http://www.operationhomefront.net) or the charity of your choice.
