Murray, CFB Moncton, N.B. 1984, October 1984Alexander Kyte Kennedy was born in Inverness Nova Scotia to Joseph Daniel Kennedy and Mary Kennedy (nee MacIssac) in September 1927. He was the youngest of eleven children."He attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish , N.S. , where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 , followed by one year of Post Graduate work.In June 1950 he joined the RCAF in the Supply classification. His first posting was to the Canadian Joint Air Training Centre, Rivers, Manitoba. In 1952 he was posted to the Canadian Joint Staff London, England , where he met and married his wife, Lynette Kennedy (nee Best).Upon promotion to Flight Lieutenant in January 1954, he was posted to 1 Air Division headquarters in Metz, France. Then , in October 1955, he returned to Canada to Air Materiel Command Headquarters in Ottawa.In January 1961 he was promoted to Squadron Leader and in September of that year he began Post Graduate studies at the University of Western Ontario in London. He received a Business Administration Diploma in 1962.From 1962 to 1966, Squadron Leader Kennedy served as a staff officer at Air Force Headquarters in the Directorate of Supply Management. He was promoted to Wing Commander in 1965.In August 1966, Wing Commander Kennedy was posted to 5 Canadian Forces Supply Depot as Chief Supply Officer (equivalent to the current [1984] Materiel Control Officer). In December 1968, Lieutenant-Colonel Kennedy assumed command of Canadian Forces Moncton and 5 Canadian Forces Supply Depot upon the retirement of Colonel G.C. Mansell. His appointment continued only until June 1969 when Captain (N) Neveu took over command and he reassumed his Chief Supply Officer duties.Lieutenant-Colonel Kennedy was posted to Ottawa in May 1970 as the Budget Staff Officer in the Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance) Group of National Defence Headquarters. He remained there until August 1973 when he was promoted to the rank of Colonel and appointed Commanding Officer, 25 Canadian Forces Supply Depot, in Montreal.In October 1975, Colonel Kennedy was posted to Maritime Command Headquarters in Halifax as Command Comptroller. For his superb dedication and excellent service in this appointment, and those throughout his career, Colonel Kennedy was recommended for the Order of Military Merit.. He was appointed to the Order effective 10 December 1979 and appropriately invested by the Governor General of Canada the following year.In August 1979, Colonel Kennedy assumed his financial appointment in the Service. He became the director of Costing Services in National Defence Headquarters - a position which he held until his retirement in 1982."Colonel Kennedy's mission did not end when he retired.
