Barbara Stephanie Fleming

April 29, 1943 – January 13, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Stephanie Fleming in her home on January 13, 2026, at the age of 82.

She is mourned by her beloved children and grandchildren—her greatest pride and enduring legacy. She is survived by her daughters Patricia, Gail, and Diane; her grandchildren Jennifer, Stephanie, Liam David, Christopher Aidan, and Anne-Katherine; and her sisters Jean Lambert, Denise Griffiths, Cynthia Sinnott, Theresa Davis, and Carol Cowan (Richard Cowan); as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Barbara was born in Egham, ( Surrey ),England, and later moved to Bognor Regis. At just 19 years old, her adventurous spirit led her to pursue a position as an English nanny in New York City, where she also began modeling. A few years later, amid escalating civil unrest, she chose to immigrate to Canada.

Barbara lived and worked in Vancouver, British Columbia, and in Banff National Park, where she met her husband. Together they moved to his home city of Montreal, where they welcomed three daughters.

A few years later, Barbara became a single mother of three young girls, without family nearby and as an Anglophone living in Quebec during one of its most politically turbulent periods. She embodied strength, courage, and resilience. She found her deepest purpose and joy in her children and grandchildren.

Barbara was resourceful and creative. She was a seamstress and knitter, and even dabbled in hairdressing—much to her daughters’ dismay. She found joy in the beauty of nature, the presence of animals, arts and tending her garden. Tea was her main source of hydration, and she had a fondness for sugary treats, good food, and wine shared in good company. Her sense of humour leaves us with countless cherished memories and smiles that will last a lifetime.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
