Loving wife of 70 years to the late Dr. Havelock (Hack) Yates. Her spirited personality and love of life will be especially missed by her daughter Pamela (Barry Prieur), her grandchildren Shannon (Zachary), Amanda (Steve), Jay (Sonia), Matthew (Jess), Erin (Steve), Courtney (Phil), Jordie (Chelsea) and her 9 great-grandchildren.
Barb was predeceased by her brothers Jeff and Gordon (Jill) and the untimely passing of two of her beloved children, Lynn and Gordon.
Barb enjoyed family excursions, travel, lawn bowling, bridge, and especially entertaining. Between her warm smile and those bluest of blue eyes, she brought joy and laughter to every party. The house at 39 Creekwood was the hub of many gatherings, most memorable of which were the pool parties, with Hack’s signature cocktails and Barb’s bountiful homemade fare. Her strong sense of family values, unconditional love, occasional outspoken commentary and kindness to all those around her, will be remembered by family and friends.
A heartfelt thanks to the residents and staff at the Maxwell Residence (Baie D’Urfé) for making life so enjoyable, and to the staff on “4th Floor South” (Lakeshore General Hospital) for their kindness and care.
According to Barb’s wishes, no funeral will be held. Her ashes will be interned in the family plot at St. Margaret’s Cemetery, Scarborough, at a later date.
We invite family and friends to honour her memory with a favourite drink, accompanied by laughter and joy, celebrating a life lived fully for a remarkable 100 years.
