June 9, 1935 – February 4, 2026
Conrad Mainville passed away at the Sunrise residence in Dollard-des-Ormeaux at the age
of 90.
Predeceased by his three older brothers: Sylvio (Genita), Maurice (Sylvia), and Lorne (Monique), he leaves several nieces and nephews, as well as great-nephews, a great-niece, and great-great-nephews. He had a great affinity for the Val d’Or branch of his family.
Conrad was born in Arnprior, Ontario, and at the age of four moved to Bourlamaque (now Val d’Or). In 1952, he enrolled at St. Pat’s College in Ottawa, where he received his Senior Matriculation in 1954. He then attended Ryerson Institute of Technology in Toronto in 1955 and graduated in Electrical Technology in 1958.
Upon graduating from Ryerson, he joined the electrical department of the Iron Ore Company of Canada in Schefferville, northeastern Quebec. In 1963, he was hired as a service representative with Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW Industries and Bombardier Inc.), where he spent the next 30 years of his career. For five of those years, following GE Canada’s acquisition of Bombardier’s Rail and Diesel Division, he reported to GE Erie, Pennsylvania, serving as Manager of Spare Parts Sales for all of Canada.
While with MLW Industries and subsequently Bombardier, Conrad had the good fortune to be assigned to a number of countries, including Mexico (one year), India (two years), and shorter stints in Tunisia, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Ivory Coast, acting in the interest of his company. To say that he had an interesting and fulfilling life would be an understatement.
