Gaynor was born on July 8, 1949, in the small town of Tredegar in South Wales, United Kingdom. Her parents were Evan Francis “Frank” Morgan, the General Manager of Webb’s Brewery and Kitty Jones, a hairdresser. She grew up in South Wales, a child always happy to lose herself in a great story, and in 1967 began reading English and Classical Studies at the University of Wales, Cardiff.
While studying, she met her first husband, Peter Charles Anderson, who came from Swansea and was studying engineering. Gaynor finished studying to be a teacher in 1972 and she and Peter married that same year. In 1975, Peter was offered a job in Montreal and the two immigrated, setting up house in Verdun. Shortly afterwards in August of 1976, their first daughter arrived, Hilary Frances. Gaynor worked as a stay-at-home Mum through a move out to Pointe-Claire on the West Island and the birth of her second daughter, Elizabeth Mary, in August of 1979.
In 1984 she decided to return to teaching. She began her career again at Lindsay Place High School in Pointe-Claire, teaching English, Home Economics, and other core subjects, as well as tutoring. She always said of teaching high school students that it was more rewarding because they constantly “challenged” you. She retired from teaching, still at Lindsey Place, in 2010.
In 1990, Gaynor married her second husband, John Michael Care, also an engineer, who brought a third daughter with him in Alexandra Helen, and the blended family lived in Beaconsfield for many years after that, until Gaynor and Michael moved back to Pointe-Claire as “empty nesters” in 2018.
In 1978, Gaynor began attending services at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Pointe Claire, a community that has been a constant second family throughout the years. Her girls grew up in Sunday School and were all confirmed at the Church, and Gaynor found joy, fellowship, comfort, and support through her involvement in the Women’s Guild, the Altar Guild, Crafting Group, and a host of other activities, as well as the lasting friendships that have endured over decades.
She is survived by her husband Michael, her three daughters Hilary, Alexandra and Elizabeth, her sons-in-law Andrés, Anthony and Chad, her grandchildren, Rosalie Ella (15), Marshall Elliot (12), Gabriel Francis (9) and Henry Owen (2), and her cousins David Jones and Iwan Jones.
Gaynor was the quintessential “matriarch,” keeping her family connected, even at a distance, and together in person as much as possible. She could always be depended on for a heart-to-heart over a cup of tea and something delicious from the oven, and to her family and friends she gave a legacy of openness, support, and connection. She was loved, and will be dearly missed by her immediate, extended, and second family.
On Saturday August 17, 2024, there will be a service at 11am at The Church of St.John the Baptist, located at 233 Ste. Claire Avenue, in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. Followed by a light lunch from about 12:30pm onwards.
