It is with heavy hearts that we announce her passing on February 1, 2023, following declining health and a brief illness.
Cherished wife of Leonard (Len), beloved mother of Jennifer (Brian Hornby) and Lisa, and precious Nana to Lauren Hornby. Predeceased by her parents Amy Florence Leard (Moyse) and (Robert Alder) Wright Leard, and brothers Robert Leard (Joan) and Charles Leard (Dorothy). Jo was born in Central Bedeque, PEI and spent her childhood in Bedeque, PEI.
In her early teenage years, she attended Mount Allison School for Girls in Sackville, NB. As a young adult, she briefly moved to Streetsville, ON, but soon returned East, working at Maritime Central Airways starting in PEI and subsequently in Mont-Joli and Montréal, QC. It was at MCA that she met Len, a fellow Maritimer who became the love of her life, and they married in 1965 and settled in Pointe-Claire, QC.
Following the demise of MCA, they both worked at Nordair in Dorval, QC for several years. Jo's priorities shifted with the arrival of Jennifer and then Lisa, and she enjoyed being a full-time mom. Beyond being a dedicated wife and amazing mother and grandmother, her abilities knew no bounds - she was a master knitter, cross-stitcher, seamstress, cook, family accountant and travel arranger, succeeding at everything she set her mind to do. Her family was a source of great pride for her, and she was always happy to share that pride with others. Jo's quiet strength and steadfast love of her family and friends were constant threads throughout her life, and we will all miss her deeply.
The family expresses their thanks to Dr. Christine Legler, and to the staff at Lakeshore General Hospital for their compassionate care in her last years.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday February 18, 2:00 p.m., at Valois United Church (70 Belmont Ave., Pointe-Claire), with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
