Gord was a devoted husband of 63 years to Tootsie who passed away in May 2023. Their children will carry on the family legacy: Peter (Kay), Robert (Petra), Joanne (Giuseppe), and Diane (Steven). Papa loved each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Gordy, Corey, Sean, Lindsay, Kayla, Colin, Tyson, Jayden and Madisyn. Gord was pre-deceased by his siblings William and Joan.
Gord grew up in and was a large part of the community of Ile Bigras, Laval. Although born in Oshawa in 1935, he moved to the island and met Tootsie (Gertrude) Richard who became his beloved wife. He was active in their sports programs, was a volunteer fire-fighter and met most of his life-long friends there. They welcomed their four children to the island and eventually moved to Dollard des Ormeaux, Pierrefonds and Pointe Claire.
Air Canada provided not only employment for over 37 years, but the opportunity to travel, meet people and participate in events which the whole family held dear. Gord grew with the company in their Maintenance & Finance Departments and was devoted to the maple leaf tail. Retirement brought a new perspective of life: grandchildren, cruises, extended travel and golf. Gord and Tootsie had the privilege of being blessed with three great-grandchildren.
Gord left a mark in those who were part of his life: his family, work colleagues, and friends. He embodied what marriage is: love, support, knowing when to say something, and when to just smile. His strong sense of commitment and loyalty have been instilled in his children, and they are honored to hold memories of the incredible man he was. Everyone who knew him can tell stories of his sense of humour, love of life, enjoyment in preparing and hosting a good meal and the desire to make the world just a little bit better. The twinkle in his eye may have been dimmed, but the spark he shared will never go away. He will be missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Lakeshore Hospital who made his final days comfortable and dignified as well as the Day Medicine group in the Panzyga (IVIG) Treatment who supported his wife, Tootsie. We owe all of these individuals our warmest appreciation.
A private burial will be held at Cote des Neiges Cemetery; but those wishing to pay their respects may join us in a Celebration of Life which will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the hall at St. Thomas A Becket Church (4320 Saint-Anne Street, Pierrefonds, QC, H9H-4Y7).
As per Gord's wishes, donations to the MacKay Center School (6333, rue de Terrebonne, Montreal, QC H4B 1A8) would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
