With the greatest sorrow and most heavy hearts, the Cartwright family announces that Our Beloved Terry has passed on September 21, 2014 at the Lakeshore General Hospital after a courageous battle with illness.
Terry was born on July 8, 1947 to the late Beatrice MacDonald and late Jack Cartwright. He lived his youth in Park Extension of Montreal where he spent his formative years until his wedding. Terry was the love of Grace's life and her best friend for 45 years. He was devoted and was the most extraordinary DAD to Jennifer (Richard), Lianne (Justin) and Jeffrey. He was the adored and doting 'Papa' of William and Ryan.
Terry is also survived and will be missed tremendously by his two loving brothers, Jack (Colleen) of Edmonton and Glenn (Judy) of Calgary with whom he loved to have an occasional drink and reminisce about the fun and hilarious goings-on of their years growing up in Park Extension.
He will be sadly missed by his father-in-law Ryszard (Wanda).
He leaves to cherish his memories all his nieces and nephews, Jim, Wanda, Tim, Dan, Kevin, Allison, Christian, Heidi, Samantha, Caitlin and Mathieu and all their children, Terry was pre-deceased by his loving nephew John Cartwright.
He also leaves to mourn his brothers-in-law Chris (Janetta), Tom (Lisa) and Andy, the late Joey Kowalski and late Nina Kowalski, and his loving extended family of numerous cousins and second cousins, aunts and uncles which he loved to bits and always enjoyed visiting with them. They were an important part of his life.
Terry worked at Bombardier until his early retirement in 2002. In his spare time he enjoyed and never tired of driving, coaching, mentoring and encouraging his children to participate in any sport or activity they attempted. He was always present for school recitals and plays, games and competitions and he applauded with pride the remarkable abilities of Jenn and Lianne in Baton Twirling and Dance. He took a special liking and was kept busy coaching softball for Lianne and football for Jeff.
His family and extended family were most important to him and always came first. He was steadfast and positive during Jeff's medical issues at a young age. He believed with all his heart that Jeff would recover and pull through and he did. He was grateful for the care the Montreal Children's hospital provided Jeff where he spent many days and nights by Jeff's side while undergoing chemotherapy, never ever losing his positive attitude and sense of humour.
And not one to be outdone, Terry had the most infectious laughter and sense of humour, every day he had a new joke or funny story to tell. He also never shied away from any racy joke and loved to share them with his brothers Jack and Glenn. He just loved to make people laugh. Grace always said that this is what attracted her to him. Those memories are so vivid where his mom would be doubled up in laughter in her small kitchen on Wiseman while preparing Sunday dinner. That was Terry in all his glory. He was quite a card.
He also loved camping and boating and was so very fond of family summer vacations spent in Lake George, Swanton N.Y. And mostly Orlando Disney World. Terry's life was a life well-lived and tremendously enjoyed. He made friends easily, and kept in touch with his childhood friends. Because of his sympathetic and happy nature, he made a very favourable impression wherever he went and wherever he worked.
It is customary to speak kindly of the loved ones who have passed, but in Terry's case, it is felt most sincerely to tell you that he was all and much much more than what is written here. We as a family miss his infectious smile and talk about him every day, he is always in our thoughts, and we associate whatever 'good' happens to Terry's giving a good word. He was taken from us way way too soon. He is relaxing and looking over us ALL with his Mom, Dad, John and 'Knoxie Boy'.
Honouring his wishes, a private funeral was held followed by internment at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Pointe Claire, Quebec.
