Andre was born on January 15, 1989 to Angela and Ronnie at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn New York. He was a normal infant, happy, healthy alert and active.
At the tender age of three, Andre went to live in Jamaica for a period of time. He joined our family which included my husband and two girls, Soon thereafter; Andre began attending school at Forest Hills Prep and then enrolled at the St. Andrew Preparatory School. While at St. Andrew Prep, Andre developed a passion for the game of Soccer. He represented his school at the highest level, as an esteemed member of the team that played in the Alberga Cup competition for two seasons. If one were to ask Andre what his favourite memory was during that period of great achievement, his response would have been when his father bought him his first football.
Andre sat the Common Entrance Examination in 2001 and was awarded a place at the Meadowbrook High School. It was while attending Meadowbrook that he was more able to demonstrate his soccer skills. As a matter of fact, because of his love and dedication to the game we began to wonder if we were seeing the making of another PELE the great Brazilian player. He made us a promise that he was going to make the School’s Manning Cup team. Unfortunately, he was unable to fulfil that dream as he left for the States at the end of his first year of high school. After being a part of our family for over eleven years, Andre returned to his mother in Florida. Upon returning to the USA he attended Coral Springs High and after graduation he began working for Costco Wholesalers, until his untimely death on October 12th 2013.
As Andre matured, his character traits became more evident. He was fun- loving, affectionate, sensitive, respectful and kind. He was brought up in a home where Christian principles were upheld. Evidence of his Christian upbringing and his mother’s steadfast support and guidance was apparent in the wonderful young man he had become. Everyone had great things to say about Andre, and not surprisingly he was a very popular individual. His kind, infectious spirit drew people to him, and his words of encouragement strengthened many persons whom he will never know he greatly impacted.
On the morning of October 12, 2013 after receiving the terrible news about our beloved Andre we were stunned, speechless and numb. However, we are truly proud and grateful for the exemplary, strong, and hardworking young man he had become. May we always remember his indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire and influence us as we celebrate the beautiful life God blessed us with for 24 years.
Andre will be sadly missed by his grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine on him.
