
Cheshire, Angie (Mulkey), 94, of Pompano Beach, FL, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Angie (Mulkey) Cheshire, the daughter of Bessie and Dewitt Mulkey, was born in Georgia on December 16, 1918. Her two brothers, Harvin and James Mulkey, both died while faithfully serving our country in World War II. Her sister, Evelyn, died in 2012. The Mulkey family moved to Pompano in the late 20's. She met the love of her life, Woodrow Wilson Cheshire, in the 6th grade. They were married in 1939. Woodrow predeceased Angie in 2010 after they had celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Angie attended Georgia Teacher College and Florida state College for Women at Tallahassee. Angie and Woodrow were Pompano pioneers. Angie faithfully cared for the family and stood by Woodrow's side during the many years he spent on the farm and during his service on the Pompano Beach City Commission and as Mayor of Pompano Beach. They had three children, eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. They enjoyed spending their summers in Highlands, North Carolina for almost 40 years. Angie was a strong and gracious woman whose faith was an important source of strength to her throughout her life. Her smile and enduring spirit of perseverance will be missed by many. The family wishes to thank the amazing team of personal caregivers who have cared for her for years and the staff of Hospice by the Sea who faithfully cared for Angie and ensured her peaceful transition from her home in Pompano Beach to her eternal home in heaven. Angie is survived by her children: Gwen (Ray) Collier, Joanne Pierce, and James (Carol) Cheshire, eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday April 22, 2013 at the Pompano Beach Chapel of Christ Church United Methodist, 210 NE 3rd St., Pompano Beach, FL 33060 with internment following at Pompano Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be designated to Hospice by the Sea or Christ Church School Scholarship Fund at the address above.
