Ann Marie (Bennett) Wilkins passed away on June 7, 2024, at 67 years of age after a brief illness. Ann exhibited resilience, courage, and a positive outlook throughout her life. This was most evident in her love for her family, friends, and community. Ann was known as a kind and generous person, putting others’ needs ahead of her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her. She will be remembered for her infectious smile and warm personality. Ann was born in Ft. Lauderdale on June 29, 1956. She graduated from NortheastHigh School in 1975. Ann attended college and subsequently graduated from Broward Police Academy #104 as an officer in 1984, beginning what would become her long association with the Boward Sherriff Office. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband Timothy James Wilkins, and devoted mother to her children Ashley Marie and Jeanie Ann, and the most amazing grandmother to her three beautiful grandchildren – Joseph Louis Macklin III, Jayce Timothy Macklin, and Harper Ann Huff. Ann enjoyed traveling and camping and was an avid lifelong Miami Dolphins fan. She was a communicant at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, and also served as eucharistic minister and as a religious education teacher. Ann retired from BSO in 2018 after 34 years of service. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, supporting her grandsons Eagle football team, traveling (including trips to Iceland and the Vatican), and planning and going on camping and fishing trips with both family and friends.
Ann is survived by and will be greatly missed by her children Ashley (Chris) Huff, and Jeanie Wilkins, her sister Mary Kay (Kevin) Walsh, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. She is pre-deceased by her husband Tim, mother Mary, father John, stepfather Edward, and brother John (Freddie).
