

SINGLETON, Charles Grady, Sr. (Grady), 97, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather joined our Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 17th following a brief illness. Predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Sadie, son, Charles Jr., and grandson, Dylan, Grady is survived by daughters Cindy (Larry) Peters, Glenda (Earl) Clark, and Jenni (Mike) Simon. Grady was a loving grandfather to Grady (Wendi) Peters, Bob (Tommi) Peters, Charlie (Stephanie) Singleton, Robert (Jessica) Singleton, Eliza (Michael) Appell, Rhett Clark, Jessica Simon, and Callie Simon. He was the proud great-grandfather of 10. A ninth generation Floridian, Grady was born in Wauchula, FL in 1918. His family moved to Ft. Lauderdale during his childhood. A 1936 graduate of Ft. Lauderdale High School, he recently attended his 79th Class Reunion where he was acknowledged as the oldest surviving alum. Grady served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a Master Sargeant in the 39th Bomb Group as an airplane armament inspector. He was stationed in Guam and his crew trained with the crew of the Enola Gay. After returning from the war, Grady’s family moved to Pompano Beach where he met Sadie McNab. They married in 1946. President of the Singleton Company, Grady worked at the Pompano State Farmers’ Market for 70 years as a winter vegetable broker. Grady was the oldest surviving continuous member of Pompano’s First United Methodist Church where he served as the Chairman of the Building Committee for the Sanctuary and on the Financial Advisory Board. Grady was honored to serve on the Board of Directors for Pine Crest School and First National Banks of Pompano, Margate, and Lighthouse Point. He was a Charter member of Pompano’s American Legion Chapter, Pompano’s VOFW, and Pompano Elks Club. He was a proud member of the 40&8 Veterans Organization, Florida Council of 100, the Shrine, the Royal Order of Jesters, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was recognized as a Kentucky Colonel and as a Pioneer by the Broward County Historical Society. In recent years, thanks to the loving care of dedicated aides Paula Howell, Paula Jamison, Lileith Vassell, Iszy Saintil, Edna Jean-Docteur, and Rosana John-Simmons, our dad was able to continue to enjoy a full life including taking frequent cruises. He will be greatly missed. Pastor Bob Sands will lead our celebration of Grady’s life on Saturday, May 23rd at 10am at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 N. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Pompano Beach Cemetery. Friends and loved ones may visit with the family from 4-7pm on Friday, May 22nd at the funeral home.
