

Dave as he was affectionately known to friends and co-workers was born May 18th 1943 in Marion, South Carolina to Henry Jefferson and Annie Laura (Reed) Davis. He joined St. James AME Church in Marion at an early age. He attended Horry County Grammar Schools and graduated from Whittemore High School, in Conway, South Carolina. He continued his education at Allen University a HBCU, in Columbia South Carolina.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army serving in Korea in 1965 and attained the rank of SP4. On October 6, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ann Winds known to all as Peggy. He and Joyce later moved to Pompano Beach to make it their permanent home and later raised their two daughters Wendy Lorraine and Karen Yolanda. They were also blessed with two Grandsons, Brian David Roberts and his wife Maria and great-granddaughter Ariel, and Grandson Cameron Jamil Bey. Each one was his heart.
Dave was a dedicated worker at Plasterline and then later used the telecommunication skills gained in the Army to become employed with Southern Bell/Bell South/AT&T. He retired with them after 32 years of service. He was well known and well liked for his job knowledge and courteous and professional behavior.
Dave loved life, playing softball on a local team and league bowling and playing in tournaments. He met with his former retired co-workers for breakfast every Wednesday morning where conversation and friendship kept them coming back each week. He loved talking with people and making them laugh. He never met a stranger.
He loved music and would break out into a James Brown dance move to the delight, and entertainment of everyone. He was loved, admired, cherished and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: James Cleveland Davis, Thomas Jefferson Davis (TJ) and Herbert Lee Davis, Sr.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, his two daughters, Wendy and Karen, grandsons, Brian and Cameron, granddaughter in-law, Maria and great granddaughter Ariel. His sister Annie Ruth Banks (Kenneth) of Jacksonville, Florida, brother Jerome Davis (Patricia), Marion, South Carolina, a special niece Wanda Windes–Greene, Ellsworth AFB South Dakota and a special daughter Janet Jones, New York City. Sisters in Law, Ola Jean Davis (James), Pompano Beach, Azalea Davis (Thomas) Columbia, S.C., and a numerous host of dear family members, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
