It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rex Rush on February 21, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on August 17, 1957, in Hialeah, FL, to James and Collette Rush, Rex was a man whose life was defined by love, laughter, and dedication.
Rex graduated from Hialeah High School in 1975 before attending the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where he studied Journalism. It was at Ole Miss that he met the love of his life, Lillian Beanland-Rush. The couple returned to Pompano Beach, FL, where Rex soon began his professional career, initially working at the Sun Sentinel. Over the years, he transitioned into the automotive industry, becoming a well-known Advertising Sales Manager. Rex dedicated 38 years of his life to the industry, building a reputation as a hard worker and respected professional.
In 1990, Rex and Lillian welcomed their first daughter, Alyssa Rush, followed by their second daughter, Shelby Rush, four years later. Rex was a devoted father and cherished the role he played in their lives. His family was his pride and joy.
Rex is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; his daughters, Alyssa and Shelby; his sister, Brenda Lee and brother-in-law Joe Lee; nephew, Jay Lee; niece, Muffet Lee; son-in-law Gian Carlos Hurtado; grandson, Alonso Hurtado; and granddaughter, Mila Hurtado. He was a family man at heart, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were closest to him.
To know Rex was to know someone who lit up every room. His infectious laugh, his jokes, and his genuine warmth brought joy to everyone he met. He was the life of every gathering, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held in his honor, and the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Campaign For Ole Miss: Journalism and New Media in Rex’s memory.
