George C. Nichols, age 85, passed away Monday, December 1st, peacefully at his home in Plantation, Florida, surrounded by his devoted wife Alexandra, daughter and son. He is survived by his wife, his daughter Tassia Brunt, son Chris Nichols, son-in-law Mark, daughter-in-law Raffaella, and 6 grandchildren.
George lived a life shaped by hard work, devotion to family, and deep pride in his Greek heritage. As a young man he served as a captain in the Greek Merchant Marines, and later became the owner of a nursing home in Greece. It was through his kind care for one of the residents – and a bit of matchmaking – that he met the love of his life, Alexandra Paraskis, who would become his wife of nearly 52 years.
In 1972, George emigrated to the United States, embracing new beginnings with courage and determination. He and Alexandra built a life together in South Florida, where he later retired from Publix Super Markets. George was known as an exceptionally hard worker, a gifted handyman, and someone who would always lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends in the North Miami Beach community. Over the years, he mentored many young people, several of whom went on to become successful business owners – a legacy he carried with quiet pride.
George remained deeply proud of his Greek roots, while also cherishing the opportunities he found in America. One of his proudest moments was becoming a United States citizen, with his wife and children witnessing the ceremony. He truly believed that America was a place where hard work could lead to success, and he lived that belief every day.
He will be remembered for his generosity, his dedication to family, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and example.
